Guillermo Rojas A. is a Latin American musician based in Paris, France.
With his own style and ventures derived from various disciplines and musical genres, he has managed to become a versatile performer who stands out for his artistic career in jazz, latin and concert music, including chamber music, symphony orchestras and different experiences in solo projects.
Inspired by references from contemporary music of the 20th and 21st centuries, Guillermo adapts to different areas from a community approach that generates ruptures before classical canons and established aesthetic paradigms.
He graduated with merits from the Universidad Central (Colombia) as a result of the of the interpretation and performance of works by Xenakis, Carter, Molenhoff and Liebhart. Under the mentorship of Troy Breaux, he completed a Master's degree at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette (USA), where he was named finalist for the Outstanding Master’s Graduate award and was recognized for mantaining a perfect GPA. There he also became assistant professor for “World Music Appreciation” and cunductor of the UL Latin Jazz Ensemble.
He has participated in projects such as La Bandola Blues, the non-conventional percussion group TEKEYÉ, the percussion ensemble Tridio, the salsa orchestra Latino Pulse, the Moon Jazz Big Band, among many others. Likewise, his career in orchestras has been enriched with participation in the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá, the Orquesta Nueva Filarmonía and the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member of the Lafayette University Symphony Orchestra, the UL Wind Ensemble, the UL Big Band, the UL Percussion Ensemble, the UL World Music Ensemble, and the UL Jazz Combo.
His professional experience in music has also been associated with the academy. As an educator and trainer, he has toured institutions teaching musical fundamentals, percussion and drums, solfege and ear training, conducting ensembles, demonstrating aptitudes for collective work and skills to implement multiple pedagogical strategies.
Guillermo is a certified instrumentalist who plays with avidity, teaches with integrity, and has the leadership to develop various projects, making music an indispensable tool for social transformation.
